Canal Reserve Off Leash Area

Overview
Located in Sydney’s Inner West, Canal Reserve in Forest Lodge is a small but handy off-leash space for local dog owners.
The park is unfenced and runs alongside Johnstons Creek, giving it a narrow, linear layout with a relaxed, neighbourhood feel. It’s mainly used by nearby residents looking for a convenient spot to exercise their dogs close to home.
The grassy strip is modest in size but offers enough space for short runs and play. Mature trees provide shade, and there are benches for owners to sit while their dogs explore. Its quiet setting away from main roads makes it a comfortable local option, though it lacks the scale of larger parks.
Because the area is unfenced and borders the canal, reliable recall is important. The grass surface can get muddy after wet weather, and there are no dedicated dog facilities, so owners should bring water and plan for shorter visits.
The reserve connects easily to the Glebe Foreshore Walk, giving owners the option of extending their outing along the scenic harbourside pathway. Cafes in Glebe and Annandale are within walking distance, adding convenience for a quick stop after the park.
Canal Reserve is best suited to smaller, calmer dogs or those who enjoy a quieter environment rather than busy, social play spaces.
Canal Reserve is managed by the City of Sydney Council.
