Merck Animal Health
Overview
Merck Animal Health is the animal health division of Merck & Co., Inc., an American multinational pharmaceutical company headquartered in Rahway, New Jersey. Outside the United States and Canada, the company operates under the name MSD Animal Health. Merck's involvement in animal health dates back to the 1940s, and the modern division was formed through the 2009 merger of Merck and Schering-Plough, which brought together Intervet and Schering-Plough Animal Health. The division was officially renamed Merck Animal Health in 2011 and today generates approximately US$5.8 billion in annual animal health revenue, making it one of the largest animal health companies in the world.
Australian dog owners will most commonly encounter Merck Animal Health through Bravecto, its flagship flea and tick parasiticide available as chewable tablets, topical solutions, and an injectable formulation (branded Bravecto Quantum in Australia) that provides up to 12 months of protection. The company also offers the Nobivac range of vaccines for dogs and the Sure Petcare portfolio of microchip-enabled pet technology. Merck & Co. is publicly listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker MRK.
