Dog Directory is an Australian platform that aggregates dog-friendly locations, pet products, brand profiles, and price comparisons. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

About

Dog Directory is operated by Dog Directory Pty Ltd ABN 99693647415. You can contact us at team@dog.directory.

Information We Collect

Information you provide — name, email address, and other details submitted via contact forms, business listing enquiries, or subscription sign-ups.

Usage Data — pages visited, search queries, map interactions, and device or browser type, collected automatically when you use the site.

Location Data — approximate location if you use the interactive map feature and grant browser location permission. We do not store precise GPS coordinates.

Business Listing Data — if you submit or manage a listing, we collect the details you provide (business name, address, contact details, opening hours).

Payment Data — if you purchase a paid listing or subscription, payments are processed by a third-party payment provider. We do not store your card details.

How We Use Your Information

  • To operate and improve the directory, map, and product comparison features.
  • To respond to enquiries and manage business listing subscriptions.
  • To send transactional emails such as listing confirmations and renewal reminders.
  • To analyse site usage and improve content.
  • To process payments for paid listings.
  • To comply with our legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

Affiliate Links

Dog Directory includes affiliate links to pet retailers. If you click an affiliate link, the retailer and their tracking network may set cookies or receive information about your visit. We may earn a commission if you make a purchase — at no extra cost to you. Each retailer has their own privacy policy governing data collected on their site.

Cookies and Tracking

Essential Cookies — required for core site functionality such as map preferences.

Analytics Cookies — help us understand how visitors use the site, collected in aggregated form where possible.

Affiliate Tracking Cookies — set when you click a product or supplier link, to attribute any resulting purchase.

You can manage cookie preferences through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may limit some features.

Third Party Services and Data Location

We use third-party services for website hosting, database storage, payment processing, map rendering, and workflow automation. Some of these providers may store or process data outside Australia. Where this occurs, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is handled in accordance with the APPs.

Payments are handled by a PCI-DSS compliant payment processor. We do not have access to your full card details at any point. The interactive map feature relies on a third-party mapping service; if you grant location permission, your approximate location is shared with that service to display nearby results.

Data Security and Retention

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, loss, and unauthorised access. We retain your information only as long as necessary for the purpose it was collected, or as required by law. You may request deletion of your information at any time.

Your Rights

Under the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Request correction of inaccurate information.
  • Request deletion of your information, subject to legal obligations.
  • Opt out of marketing communications at any time.
  • Lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at www.oaic.gov.au if you believe your privacy rights have been breached.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at team@dog.directory.

Children's Privacy

Dog Directory is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Policy Updates

We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
