Overview
MPM Products — which stands for Making Pet Food Matters — is a UK-headquartered premium pet food company founded in 2002 by Roger Wood, Roger Coleman and Jon Kinsey, who set out to create natural pet food free from additives and fillers. The company launched its flagship brand Applaws in 2006 through UK specialty retailers, followed by Encore in 2008 for the grocery channel and Reveal in 2017 for the US market. MPM achieved B Corp certification in 2021 and today sells its brands in over 50 countries, with offices in the UK, Australia, the USA, China and Thailand. International sales account for approximately 80% of revenue, with the US now its largest market.
Australian dog and cat owners will primarily encounter MPM through Applaws, a premium natural pet food brand known for its high meat content and grain-free recipes, and Encore, positioned as an accessible natural option through supermarkets. MPM has changed private equity hands several times — ECI Partners took a majority stake in 2016, followed by 3i in 2020, and most recently Partners Group acquired the business. MPM is privately held under Partners Group ownership.
