Pawshake was founded in 2013 by Dries Coucke and Tanguy Peers — two former eBay and Gumtree executives who brought marketplace expertise to a deeply personal mission.

The idea was born when Dries, who had built Belgium's largest dog rescue rehoming community, struggled to find a trusted, local sitter he could rely on like a friend or family member. He and Tanguy set out to build exactly that: a global community of genuine pet lovers connected through technology.
