Nestlé Purina
Overview
Nestlé Purina PetCare is the pet care division of Nestlé S.A., the Swiss multinational food and beverage corporation headquartered in Vevey, Switzerland. The division was formed in 2001 when Nestlé acquired American company Ralston Purina for US$10.3 billion and merged it with its existing Friskies PetCare business. Ralston Purina's origins trace back to 1894, making it one of the oldest names in pet nutrition. Today, Nestlé Purina is one of the two largest pet food companies in the world alongside Mars Petcare, with annual pet care revenue exceeding US$16 billion and manufacturing operations across 19 countries. The company maintains three regional headquarters: St. Louis (Americas), Lausanne (Europe) and Sydney (Asia, Oceania and Africa).
Australian dog owners will encounter Nestlé Purina through several brands. Supercoat is the company's locally manufactured dry dog food brand designed specifically for the Australian market. Pro Plan is its premium, science-led nutrition range available through pet specialty and veterinary channels. Purina One offers a mid-tier option through supermarkets and pet retailers. Nestlé Purina is a subsidiary of Nestlé S.A., which is publicly listed on the Swiss stock exchange under the ticker SIX: NESN.
