Overview
Located in Sydney’s Inner West, Birchgrove Oval provides an off-leash area in a scenic harbourside setting.
The park is unfenced and has a lively, community feel, with wide open fields that double as sporting grounds. Its waterfront location and large grassy space make it a popular destination for both exercise and socialising.
The off-leash area is a full-sized oval, giving dogs plenty of room to run and play. Shady trees and seating areas are located around the edges, and the harbour views add to the appeal for owners.
Dogs are permitted off-leash only outside of organised sporting activities. As the ground is unfenced and borders busy roads and the water, dogs with reliable recall are best suited here. The grass is well maintained for sports but can become muddy in wet weather. Bringing your own water is recommended.
The oval is close to Balmain cafés, pubs, and shops, and connects easily to the harbour foreshore walk for longer outings.
Birchgrove Oval is best suited to energetic, social dogs who enjoy wide open fields and lively community settings.
Birchgrove Oval is managed by the Inner West Council.
