Mackerel Beach

Overview
Mackerel Beach at Great Mackerel Beach is the Northern Beaches' most remote dog-friendly beach, accessible only by ferry from Palm Beach or private boat. This pristine coastal gem sits on the western shores of Pittwater, surrounded by national park and offering a peaceful escape for adventurous dog owners. Dogs are permitted off-leash between sunrise and 9:30am, and again from 5pm to sunset daily, making early morning and evening the ideal times for beach exploration.
The dog-friendly beach stretches between the jetty and the northernmost houses, offering golden sand and scenic Pittwater views. The remote location and limited access ensure a quieter experience compared to more accessible Northern Beaches alternatives. Bring supplies for the ferry journey, especially for smaller dogs who may need carriers on board.
Mackerel Beach suits intrepid dog owners prepared to make the ferry journey to reach this secluded Great Mackerel Beach destination. The off-leash beach windows — early morning and late afternoon — are ideal for cooler exercise in a genuinely wild coastal setting.
Mackerel Beach is managed by Northern Beaches Council.
