Boehringer Ingelheim
Overview
Boehringer Ingelheim is a German pharmaceutical company and one of the largest privately held pharmaceutical businesses in the world. Founded in 1885 in Ingelheim am Rhein, Germany, the company remains fully owned by the Boehringer, Liebrecht and von Baumbach families. Its animal health division is the second largest in the world, behind only Zoetis.
Australian dog owners will know Boehringer Ingelheim through its parasite prevention brands — NexGard and NexGard SPECTRA (flea, tick, and worm protection), Frontline (topical flea and tick treatment), and Heartgard Plus (heartworm prevention). These products came into the portfolio in 2017 when Boehringer Ingelheim acquired Merial from Sanofi and merged it with its existing animal health business. They are among the most widely recommended parasite treatments by Australian veterinarians.
Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health Australia operates from North Ryde, NSW. The company is privately held and does not trade on any stock exchange.
