Overview
The Bayview first opened on the Gladesville corner in 1879 as the third hotel in the suburb; the current brick building went up between 1928 and 1934 when the main road was widened. The pub was the Bayview Tavern until a rebrand dropped the 'Tavern' and Humphrey & Edwards Architects (Chiswick's dining room) ran a new fit-out in blonde wood and teal, with a gas-fireplace snug in the quieter end. James Hannon owns the freehold, Rod Pittorino runs the licence, and Greg Bookallil of the Longueville Hotel sits across the food with head chef Craig Wright. The room once hosted Cold Chisel, INXS, The Angels, The Radiators and The Church in its seventies heyday.
Dogs are welcome inside at the front bar. The all-weather terrace looking over Homebush Bay is the pick for a long Gladesville lunch.
