Birchgrove Park

Off Leash Area in Birchgrove

Overview

Located at the tip of the Balmain peninsula, Birchgrove Park wraps around a harbourside foreshore with sweeping views across the water to the North Shore. The off-leash area runs along the outer edges of the park — the waterfront fringe and surrounding grassy perimeter — not the oval itself, which is a dogs-prohibited zone under Inner West Council rules. The 10-metre exclusion zone around the oval boundary applies at all times, regardless of whether sport is in session.

The foreshore strip is unfenced and opens directly onto the harbour, so dogs with solid recall are best suited here. Shade is available around the perimeter, and the waterfront access makes this a solid option for dogs who like a sniff along the foreshore rather than a big open run. Connects easily to the broader Birchgrove foreshore walk.

Birchgrove Park is managed by the Inner West Council.
