Overview
The Annandale Hotel opened as a straightforward thirties pub before Peter Morris converted it into a live-music venue in the early 1980s. The band room upstairs became a cornerstone of Sydney rock: Silverchair, the Vines, Wolfmother, Jet, Hoodoo Gurus, Gotye and Jebediah all passed through. A pokies-heavy detour nearly closed it at the end of the nineties; brothers Matt and Dan Rule bought it in 2000 and put the music back on. Oscars Hotels picked it up in 2013 and ran a major refit in 2014. Today the venue splits between a rock pub downstairs, a working band room upstairs, fourteen refurbished hotel rooms, and Burgers by Josh turning out the Wagyu J Burger and loaded fries.
Dogs are welcome inside and out on the beer garden, and Thursday nights run a dog raffle for supplies and treats. Annandale's rock pub still knows its regulars and now lets them bring the dog.
