Overview
Located in Sydney’s Inner West, Birrung Park in Balmain provides a small off-leash space with a community feel.
The park is unfenced and doubles as a shared recreation area, giving local residents a convenient option for short daily outings with their dogs. Its modest size makes it more of a neighbourhood stop than a destination.
The off-leash area is a grassy field with some shaded trees and seating for owners. Its open design makes it easy to supervise dogs, and while compact, it offers enough room for casual play and exercise.
Dogs are permitted off-leash only outside of organised sporting activities. Because the space is unfenced and close to surrounding streets, reliable recall is important. The grass can become worn or muddy after rain, and owners should bring water as there are no dog-specific facilities.
The reserve is close to Balmain’s shops, pubs, and cafés, giving owners the option to combine a park visit with a local outing.
Birrung Park is best suited to smaller or calmer dogs that don’t require a large running space.
Birrung Park is managed by the Inner West Council.
