Overview
The Glengarry Castle has been a Redfern pub since 1851, which makes it one of the suburb's oldest, and the building still runs along the lines of a proper Victorian hotel: bistro, beer garden, bottle shop, accommodation and a front bar that plays live sport. A recent review called it one of the last ungentrified relics of Redfern's working-class past — the kind of backhanded compliment this sort of place tends to earn and deserve. Steaks and classic pub fare do the heavy lifting on the menu, pulled with a rotating set of craft beers.
Dogs are welcome inside and out between 2pm and 5:30pm — the window when no food service is running — which is narrower than most but long enough for an afternoon schooner with a pup parked underneath.
