Overview
The Glenroy Hotel has been trading on the same Alexandria corner since 1856, opened by Thomas Barber Goldfinch as the Salutation Inn on the old coach run out to Botany Bay. The original was demolished in 1906 and rebuilt in Federation Arts and Crafts: hipped roof in Marseilles tile, exposed rafters, pressed metal awning, glazed ceramic tiling across the ground floor. PMJ Operations picked it up in 2023 and ran a renovation through before Christmas that year. It's still a two-storey pub that draws Sydney Swans crowds and the old blue-collar Alexandria regulars.
Dogs get two outdoor options: a small area out the back under shade cloth, and the bistro under a remote-control Vergola roof that closes when the weather turns. Neither the main bar nor the gaming floor takes them, but the bistro keeps running rain or shine.
