FRONTLINE® Plus Large 20-40kg Flea and Tick Spot-On

FRONTLINE® Plus Large 20-40kg Flea and Tick Spot-On

Frontline PLUS

Overview

Frontline® Plus for Dogs is a monthly spot-on treatment that tackles fleas and ticks at every life stage. Its dual active formula — fipronil and (S)-methoprene — works together to kill adult fleas and ticks on contact while simultaneously breaking the flea life cycle by eliminating eggs and larvae, helping prevent reinfestation of both your dog and your home.

Fipronil is absorbed into the skin's oil glands and continuously distributed through the coat for sustained protection, while (S)-methoprene acts as an insect growth regulator to stop juvenile fleas from developing. The formula also aids in the control of biting lice and sarcoptic mange.

Applied between the shoulder blades, Frontline Plus is waterfast 24 hours after treatment — safe for dogs that swim or are bathed regularly. For flea and brown dog tick control, apply monthly; in paralysis tick areas, apply every two weeks. Safe for puppies from 8 weeks of age and suitable for breeding, pregnant and lactating dogs.

Fipronil

Fipronil

Origin
Role
Functional Benefits

Summary

Fipronil is a phenylpyrazole insecticide commonly used in topical flea and tick treatments. It disrupts the central nervous system of parasites by blocking GABA-regulated chloride channels, resulting in paralysis and death.

Manufacturer Benefits

Methoprene

Methoprene

Origin
Role
Functional Benefits

Summary

Methoprene is an insect growth regulator used in flea control products, often combined with adulticides. It mimics juvenile hormones in insects, preventing flea larvae and pupae from maturing into breeding adults.

Manufacturer Benefits

Butylhydroxyanisole

Butylhydroxyanisole

BHA, E320, 2-Tert-Butyl-4-Methoxyphenol, 2(1,1-Dimethylethyl)-4-Methoxyphenol

Origin
Synthetic
Role
Functional Benefits

Summary

Butylhydroxyanisole (BHA) is a synthetic antioxidant derived from petroleum sources. It is primarily included in pet food to prevent the oxidation of fats and oils, thereby extending shelf life and maintaining product quality. BHA is not used in its raw chemical state; instead, it is incorporated as a purified compound specifically formulated for food safety and effective preservation.

Manufacturer Benefits

Butylhydroxyanisole is included as a synthetic antioxidant to extend the shelf life of pet food by preventing fat oxidation and rancidity. Its use helps maintain product stability during storage and distribution.

Butylhydroxytoluene

Butylhydroxytoluene

2,6-Di-Tert-Butyl-4-Methylphenol, BHT, E321, 2,6-Di-Tert-Butyl-P-Cresol

Summary

Butylhydroxytoluene (BHT) is a synthetic antioxidant derived from petroleum sources. It is primarily included in pet food to prevent the oxidation of fats and oils, thereby extending shelf life and maintaining nutritional quality. BHT is not used in its raw chemical state; instead, it is incorporated as a purified compound specifically formulated for food safety and effective preservation.

Manufacturer Benefits

Butylhydroxytoluene is included as a synthetic antioxidant to extend shelf life by preventing the oxidation of fats and oils in pet food. Its use helps maintain product stability and freshness during storage and distribution.

Diethylene Glycol Monoethyl Ether

Diethylene Glycol Monoethyl Ether

Ethylene Glycol Monoethyl Ether, 2-(2-Ethoxyethoxy)ethanol, Carbitol, DEGBE

Origin
Synthetic
Role
Functional Benefits

Summary

Diethylene Glycol Monoethyl Ether is a synthetic compound derived from ethylene glycol, categorised as a chemical ingredient rather than a nutrient. It is primarily used as a solvent or carrier in certain pet food processing applications, aiding in ingredient dispersion. This compound is not present in its natural form but is utilised in a purified, manufactured state to ensure safety and functional efficacy.

Manufacturer Benefits

Diethylene Glycol Monoethyl Ether is included as a solvent or carrier to help dissolve and evenly distribute active ingredients or flavours in pet food formulations. Its use can optimise ingredient stability and ensure consistent product texture.

Ethanol

Ethanol

Ethyl Alcohol, Alcohol, Spirit, E1000

Origin
Synthetic
Role
Functional Benefits

Summary

Ethanol is an organic compound derived primarily from plant sources through fermentation processes. In pet food, its main purpose is as a processing aid or preservative, helping to inhibit microbial growth and extend shelf life. Ethanol is not used in its pure, natural form; instead, it is incorporated in controlled, food-grade concentrations to ensure safety and efficacy within the finished product.

Manufacturer Benefits

Ethanol is included as a processing aid or preservative to inhibit microbial growth and extend product shelf life. Its use can also facilitate the extraction or blending of certain flavours or nutrients during manufacturing.

Polysorbate 80

Polysorbate 80

Tween 80, Polyoxyethylene (20) Sorbitan Monooleate, E433, Sorbitan Mono-9-Octadecenoate Poly(oxy-1,2-ethanediyl) Derivative

Origin
Synthetic
Role
Functional Benefits

Summary

Polysorbate 80 is a synthetic compound derived from sorbitol (a plant-based sugar alcohol) and oleic acid (typically sourced from vegetable oils). It functions primarily as an emulsifier, helping to blend ingredients that would otherwise separate, such as oils and water. Polysorbate 80 is not used in its natural raw state but is specifically manufactured for safety, stability, and optimal absorption in pet food formulations.

Manufacturer Benefits

Polysorbate 80 is included as an emulsifier to improve the stability and texture of pet food by helping blend oil and water-based ingredients. Its use can also optimise product consistency and extend shelf life.

Role
Functional Benefits

Summary

Povidone is a synthetic polymer derived from the chemical polymerisation of vinylpyrrolidone. It is not of animal or plant origin but is manufactured for use in various industries, including pet food. Its primary function is as a binder, helping to hold kibble and treats together. Povidone is not used in its raw chemical form but as a purified, food-grade compound to ensure safety and efficacy.

Manufacturer Benefits

Povidone is included as a binder and stabiliser to improve the texture and consistency of pet food products. It also helps maintain ingredient dispersion and product uniformity during processing and storage.
