Overview
Located in Sydney’s Inner West, Balmain Road Sporting Ground in Leichhardt doubles as an off-leash dog area outside of organised sporting use.
The park is unfenced and has a community feel, serving both as a local sports ground and a practical space for dog owners during permitted hours. Its flat, open fields provide plenty of space for running when available.
The off-leash area is a large grassy oval with open sightlines, making it easy to supervise dogs. Seating and shade are limited, but the size of the field gives energetic dogs room to stretch their legs.
Dogs are permitted off-leash only outside of organised sporting activities. Because the ground is unfenced and bordered by roads, reliable recall is essential. The turf surface is maintained for sports use, which means it can become muddy in wet conditions. Owners should bring water, as facilities are limited.
The ground is located close to Leichhardt MarketPlace and local cafés, making it convenient to pair a dog visit with errands or a coffee stop.
Balmain Road Sporting Ground is best suited to energetic, social dogs that enjoy large open fields and have strong recall.
Balmain Road Sporting Ground is managed by the Inner West Council.
