Overview
Located in Sydney’s Inner West, Elkington Park in Balmain provides a harbourside open space with a designated off-leash area.
The park is unfenced and has a peaceful, scenic feel, with views across the water and plenty of shady trees. Its historic pavilion and foreshore setting make it a pleasant community space for both people and dogs.
The off-leash area is grassy and open, offering room for dogs to run and socialise. Seating and shaded spots are scattered throughout, and its foreshore location gives it a more relaxed atmosphere than busier sporting grounds.
Dogs are permitted off-leash in the signed, designated area at all times. They must remain on-leash in all other sections of the park, and are not allowed within the playground or near the rotunda. Because the space is unfenced and close to the harbour and nearby streets, dogs with strong recall are best suited here. Owners should also bring water, as dog-specific facilities are limited.
The park is close to Balmain’s shops, pubs and cafés, and connects easily to nearby foreshore walks, making it a convenient stop for locals.
Elkington Park is best suited to smaller or calmer dogs who enjoy quiet, scenic environments.
Elkington Park is managed by the Inner West Council.
