Overview
Located in Sydney’s Inner West, Henson Park in Marrickville is one of the largest and most popular timed off-leash areas in the council area.
The park is best known as a community sporting ground, but outside of games and training sessions it becomes a spacious off-leash environment for dogs. Its size, history, and central location make it a well-loved landmark in Marrickville.
The off-leash area is a full-sized oval with wide, grassy fields and open sightlines that give dogs plenty of room to run. Seating and shady spots are located around the edges, and the sheer space makes it ideal for high-energy exercise.
Dogs are permitted off-leash outside of organised sporting activities. During sporting use, dogs must remain on-leash. As the oval is unfenced and bordered by nearby roads, reliable recall is important. The turf is maintained for football and athletics, so the surface can become muddy after wet weather. Owners should bring water, as there are no dog-specific facilities inside the oval.
Henson Park is close to Marrickville cafés, pubs, and shops, making it easy to combine a dog visit with a local outing.
Henson Park is best suited to energetic, social dogs that need a very large open space and are comfortable in busy, community settings.
Henson Park is managed by the Inner West Council.
