Overview
The DOG, formally the Duke of Gloucester Hotel, trades out of a 1930s Art Deco building that spent its first decades as the Oxford Randwick Hotel. Nobody calls it that. John Azar's Good Beer Company bought the pub in 2015 and ran it for five years before Merivale took over in 2020. Fifty-nine taps now pour Wayward, Rocks Brewing and 4 Pines, the public bar turns out po'boys and calamari fritti, and Duke's Bistro upstairs does a French-American menu with escargot, a hanger steak and beer-brined chicken across 170 seats.
Dogs are welcome on-leash in the partly covered beer garden, which the interior nods to with canine portraits on the walls. A weekend cafe trades inside the beer garden ten to three, which makes The DOG one of the easier full-day spots in Randwick for a leashed Saturday morning.
