Interceptor™ Spectrum Medium Worming Chews

Overview
Interceptor Spectrum™ for Dogs is a monthly chewable delivering complete protection against all five major worm types in one dose. Combining milbemycin oxime and praziquantel, it prevents heartworm disease and treats and controls roundworms, hookworms, whipworm and tapeworms — broader intestinal worm coverage than comparable products such as HeartGard30 PLUS or Simparica Trio, which do not cover tapeworm.
The chew can be given by hand or with a small amount of food, and can be broken into pieces if needed. A heartworm test is recommended before starting, as Interceptor Spectrum is not effective against existing adult heartworm infections.
Safe for puppies and dogs from 2 weeks of age with no minimum weight restriction. Available in four weight-based sizes. A prior heartworm test is advised before commencing treatment.
Ingredients
Active: Milbemycin Oxime, Praziquantel. Inactive: Not publicly documented.
This product is marketed as a chicken flavoured chew, however Elanco Australia has not publicly disclosed the excipient list for Interceptor Spectrum Worming Chews.

Milbemycin oxime is a refined form of milbemycin used in oral preventatives for heartworm and intestinal worms. It paralyses and kills parasites by increasing the permeability of their cell membranes, and is commonly combined with other actives for broader spectrum protection.

Praziquantel is an antiparasitic drug widely used to treat tapeworm infections in dogs. It works by causing severe spasms and paralysis in tapeworms, allowing them to be digested and eliminated from the body.

Unknown ingredients refer to components listed in pet food formulations whose specific identity or source is not disclosed. These may originate from animal, plant, or synthetic sources. Their primary purpose can vary, including nutritional supplementation or functional roles such as preservation. As their exact form is unspecified, it is unclear whether they are used in their natural state or as processed compounds, raising concerns about transparency and traceability.
This ingredient is included as a cost-effective component or processing aid, potentially serving to optimise manufacturing efficiency or product texture. Its presence may also support labelling requirements or contribute to the product’s stability, though its specific functional role is not clearly defined.
