HeartGard™ Medium 12-22kg Heartworm Chew

Overview

HeartGard30™ PLUS for Dogs is a monthly real-beef flavoured chewable that prevents heartworm disease and treats and controls the most common intestinal worms. Combining ivermectin and pyrantel, it eliminates the tissue larval stage of heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis) for 30 days following infection, preventing larvae from developing into dangerous adult heartworms.

Each monthly chew also treats and controls roundworms and hookworms. Note that HeartGard30 PLUS does not cover whipworm or tapeworm — if these are required, pairing with an allwormer such as ParaGard is recommended.

Safe for dogs from 6 weeks of age with no minimum weight restriction, and proven safe for pregnant and breeding dogs. Available in three weight-based sizes up to 45 kg (for dogs over 45 kg, combine two appropriate chews).

A heartworm test is recommended before starting treatment, as the product is not effective against existing adult heartworm infections.

Summary

Summary

Pyrantel is an anthelmintic commonly used to treat roundworm and hookworm infections in dogs. It causes spastic paralysis in susceptible worms by acting as a nicotinic receptor agonist, allowing them to be expelled through normal bowel movements.

Their primary purpose can vary, including nutritional supplementation or functional roles such as preservation. As their exact form is unspecified, it is unclear whether they are used in their natural state or as processed compounds, raising concerns about transparency and traceability.
