Overview
Greyhounds As Pets (GAP) is a not-for-profit adoption initiative coordinated by Greyhound Racing NSW. Its core purpose is to rehome former racing greyhounds, ensuring they transition from the racetrack into affectionate family companions.
Adoption
All greyhounds are health-checked, de-sexed, vaccinated, microchipped, and wormed before being made available. The adoption fee is a flat $200, covering essential veterinary costs.
GAP carefully matches each greyhound to suitable homes and continues offering support even after adoption to ensure a successful transition.
Lost Pet
GAP does not handle stray or lost dogs directly. If you’ve found a greyhound you believe may belong to someone, the appropriate first step is to contact your local council pound or a vet clinic for microchip scanning and safe holding.
Donate
Financial donations help fund vet care, food, bedding, and the infrastructure needed to rehabilitate retired greyhounds. GAP’s programs rely strongly on community support to continue matching these gentle dogs with caring families.
Volunteer
Volunteers play essential roles within GAP: from fostering greyhounds in temporary homes, to assisting at adoption events, to photographing and assessing dogs.
Those interested are invited to reach out via the GAP website to apply.
