UNCANNY Newtown

Uncanny is a family-run Newtown cocktail bar and Mediterranean tapas kitchen, opened in 2022 by the Bouskila siblings. The room is small, warmly lit and heavy on family heirlooms, hanging plants and framed movie posters — closer to a living room than a conventional bar fit-out. The drinks list runs signature work alongside classics: a za'atar margarita, a thyme-infused Aperol, a steady wine pour. The food is the side of the operation people keep coming back for — hummus with lamb mince, harissa prawns, eggplant with pomegranate molasses, marinated shwarma.

Dogs are welcome through every part of the venue, including the covered courtyard, and the crowd treats them as standard fixtures rather than novelties. Tuesdays rotate through trivia, live music and open-mic comedy. Time Out's 2025 readers voted it Sydney's Favourite Bar — a decent proxy for how much the room is liked.
