The Winery

The Winery sits off the main Surry Hills drag, behind a leafy laneway garden strung with fairy lights — the kind of outdoor drinking space that does half the work before a drink is even poured. The wine list runs more than thirty by the glass, the cocktails hold their own, and the kitchen keeps things European-leaning: burrata, crudo, grilled octopus, pasta alla norma, smoked salmon. Each winter the garden transforms into a glamping set-up with teepees and mulled wine, which is the sort of gimmick that would ring hollow almost anywhere else and works here.

Dogs are welcome in the laneway garden with water bowls on hand — walk-in only, no bookings in the dog zone. Bottomless brunches (Bellini Disco Brunch, Sip & Slay Drag Brunch) run most weekends. It's not trying to be subtle, which is most of the appeal.
