Overview
Odd Culture's Newtown outpost runs on European hours: open at 7am as a café, sliding into bar mode through the afternoon, then pushing to 2am with 12 rotating taps pouring wild-fermented lambics, farmhouse ciders and natural wines. The ground floor is cavernous in the good way — exposed timber, big front windows, people moving through it all day. Upstairs is Bistro Grenier, a French-Japanese fine-diner turning out Bavette steak and pickled mussels for a quieter crowd.
Dogs are welcome everywhere except Bistro Grenier, so the bar, café and street-facing tables are fair game. Since opening in 2021 — after the original Darlinghurst site closed — it has settled into Newtown's rhythm as the kind of place you can drop in for a morning coffee, stay for a lambic, and find yourself booking dinner upstairs by eight.
