Overview
The Warringah Bowling Club opened in December 1904 on Bradleys Head ridge, with the current clubhouse built by members in 1927. The name comes from an Aboriginal word usually translated as 'signs of rain' or 'the sea'. Rolly's Bistro has run the kitchen for several years: Swiss-born head chef Roland Schai, forty-plus years in — ex Matterhorn Turramurra — cooks pub classics alongside traditional Swiss dishes, with everything cut and made on site. The bistro trades Tuesday to Sunday from midday through to 8:30. Barefoot bowls runs for $15 a head across three hours, line-dancing nights fill in the calendar, and the expansive dining room and outdoor seating both look across the greens towards the harbour.
Dogs are welcome on-leash in the outdoor areas; the bowling greens themselves stay off-limits. The Mosman route past the club runs on to Taronga Zoo, which makes a pre-zoo schnitzel a small Sunday tradition.
