Air Dried Beef Jerky and Beetroot Dog Treats

The Nosh Project
Air Dried Beef Jerky and Beetroot Dog Treats

Overview

The Nosh Project Air Dried Beef Jerky and Beetroot Dog Treats are a gently dehydrated single-protein treat made with 87% Australian beef and a small quantity of beetroot (1.3%), produced from human-grade ingredients in a human-grade facility. The air-drying process removes moisture at low temperatures, concentrating the protein content while preserving more of the meat's natural character than conventional oven-baking or high-heat methods. The formulation includes pea protein, vegetable glycerine, apple cider vinegar, and natural antioxidants and preservatives, with no artificial additives.

These treats are suited to adult dogs and puppies over six months of age. Because beef is the dominant protein, they are not appropriate for dogs currently undergoing a single-protein elimination trial for beef sensitivity. As with all treats, they should not constitute the main dietary intake — owners should supervise consumption and portion accordingly.

Summary

Beef is the muscle meat derived from cattle, categorised as an animal-based ingredient. It serves as a rich source of high-quality protein, essential amino acids, iron, and B vitamins, supporting muscle maintenance and overall health in pets. In premium pet foods, beef is typically included in its natural, whole-food form, ensuring optimal nutrient availability and palatability.

Manufacturer Benefits

Beef is included as a primary animal protein source to meet nutritional requirements and enhance palatability for pets. Its presence also serves as a marketing advantage, appealing to consumers seeking recognisable, high-quality ingredients.

Summary

Vegetable glycerine is a clear, odourless liquid derived from plant oils, typically palm, soy, or coconut. It serves primarily as a humectant, helping to retain moisture in pet food and improve texture. Rather than being used in its raw plant form, vegetable glycerine is extracted and purified for safe consumption and optimal functionality in pet nutrition formulations.

Manufacturer Benefits

Vegetable glycerine is included as a humectant to retain moisture and improve the texture of pet food products, helping to prevent them from drying out. It also enhances palatability, making the food more appealing to pets.

Summary

Pea protein is a plant-derived ingredient extracted from yellow peas (Pisum sativum). It serves as a concentrated source of protein, supporting muscle maintenance and overall health in pets. Rather than using whole peas, pea protein is utilised in its isolated form to maximise protein content and digestibility. This functional ingredient is valued for its hypoallergenic properties and amino acid profile.

Manufacturer Benefits

Pea protein is included as a cost-effective, plant-based protein source to boost overall protein content and support product labelling claims. It also serves as a functional ingredient to improve kibble texture and binding.

Summary

It is primarily included in pet food for its potential to support digestive health and act as a natural preservative. Apple cider vinegar is used in its natural liquid form, not as a concentrated extract or synthetic compound, ensuring safety and palatability for pets.

Manufacturer Benefits

Apple cider vinegar is included as a label-friendly ingredient to appeal to health-conscious consumers and enhance product marketability. It may also serve a minor functional role in supporting palatability and mild preservation.

Summary

It is included in pet food primarily for its dietary fibre content and natural antioxidants, supporting digestive health and immune function. Beetroot is used in its natural, whole form, ensuring pets benefit from its full spectrum of phytonutrients and micronutrients.

Manufacturer Benefits

Beetroot is included as a natural colourant to enhance the visual appeal of the product for pet owners and as a label-friendly ingredient that supports marketing claims of natural or wholesome content. It may also provide a cost-effective source of fibre and micronutrients.
