Overview
The Temperance Society opened around 2015 as Summer Hill's first small bar. The room splits across two levels: a wallpapered library upstairs with Chesterfield lounges and low lamps, a fairy-lit courtyard on the ground floor for long dinners. The cocktail list reads Australian — the Little Myrtle, a cold-drip coffee martini, a rotation of house Negronis — and the kitchen runs small sharing plates to match. The Rio, a block away, is the sister bar and shares the same operators.
Dogs are welcome almost everywhere on site: the courtyard, the downstairs bar and the library upstairs. The kitchen is the only off-limits room. The Summer Hill crowd runs to regulars who know the staff and the dog by name, which is what makes the Temperance Society one of the neighbourhood's easier dog-at-dinner options.
